ON-DEMAND WEBINAR

Ensuring compliance and operational readiness under the EU AI Act

On July 12, 2024, a significant milestone was reached in the realm of artificial intelligence regulation. The Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council Laying Down Harmonised Rules on Artificial Intelligence (the AI Act) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. This landmark legislation will come into force 20 days after its publication, marking a new era of AI governance and compliance requirements for organizations operating within the EU.

The EU AI Act applies broadly, impacting providers, deployers, importers, distributors, and manufacturers of AI systems, as well as authorized representatives and affected persons within the EU. It encompasses a wide range of stakeholders, from those placing AI systems on the EU market to those whose AI outputs are utilized within the EU, regardless of their geographic location. While there are certain exemptions for military, defense, and research purposes, the Act establishes stringent compliance obligations that organizations must navigate.
